Clear Creek fans recognize Bill Doty as one of the school’s very best all-time basketball players and now he is getting state wide recognition. He is going to be inducted into the next class of the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame. He will join Coach George Carlisle and Bennie Lenox in that elite group.
He was a three year starter and was a sophomore when Lenox was a senior and Paul Timmins a junior. He was not needed for scoring early in his career and really blossomed as a senior when he averaged 22.3 points for the season and 24.1 in district play. His high point game was 44 and he is third in career scoring with 1,721 points and is the leading rebounder. The three Wildcat teams he played on all went to the state tournament and had a combined 109-10 record.
He also had a good career at Rice. He averaged 18.4 points and nine rebounds his senior year.
What would have been the result if Lenox, Timmins and Doty had been in the same class? They were the three best in their era. I think the team would have gone undefeated and probably without a close game.
