At the memorial service for Coach George B. Carlisle - held on May 30,2011 at the George B. Carlisle Field House on the campus of Clear Creek High School in League City, Texas - it did not take long to realize that Coach Carlisle was more than just a legendary basketball coach during his long career. It was evident to us all that he was also a legendary as a family patriarch and as an educator. And it was also evident that this man touched and influenced the lives of thousands of people during his lifetime.
As we came into the fieldhouse foyer, we were greeted by an array of items of memorabilia of the life and times of Coach Carlisle and his family artfully arranged on several display tables. These gave further evidence of the wonderful, productive, and influential life of this giant of a man.
The memorial service itself was led by Pastor Jason Skaer and long-time colleague and friend of Coach Carlisle, Ralph Parr. They both shared stories and memories of Coach (the name by which many of us knew him) that made the audience laugh and cry. Beautiful music was provided by a select choir of young people from Clear Creek High School and also by two of Coach's grandchildren, Kelsey and Weston Carlisle. Another grandson, Wilson Carlisle, gave a reading of Psalm 23.
Needless to say, it was a great occasion to honor a great man. I was glad to be there as a part of it.
There was a tremendous amount of personal memorabilia from the life of Coach and his family available for vieiwing in the foyer of the field house.
Pastor Jason Skaer delivers a message of hope to the many who attended the service.
Coach's son, Buddy, tells a favorite story about his dad. The court on which Buddy is standing has been named the Buddy Carlisle Court in honor of his many successful years of coaching the CCHS Wildcats basketball team.
Two very talented grandkids, Kelsey and Weston Carlisle, sing a song entitled "You Raise Me Up" in tribute to Coach Carlisle.
Peggy and I share a moment after the service. What a wonderful lady she is!
Benny Lenox, Charles Milligan, Hugh Taylor, and Ed Davis at the memorial service. Hard to believe it has been 50 plus years since we played together on the Wildcat basketball team under Coach Carlisle.
That was a tremendous account of the service for dad. It was so great to see all the folks from the past Wildcat days show up to honor him and celebrate his life. Thanks, Ed, for doing this and to all of you who offered your support and prayers.

I wonder if there are some like me who did not attend the service and would like to have a tape of it? I certainly would and contacted someone who has his name on an elementary school and another who is a noted League City orthodontist. You would think one of those big names would do what is necessary to send one to me. It has been claimed that one of them is gone with the wind and the other hiding in the tall grass and that seems to be the case this time.
