Coach Carlisle is not the only Wildcat with ties to Southwest Texas State. My trip through the media guide of the school revealed good things from several of our guys.
Boonie Wilkening first went to the University of Houston, then headed for San Marcos. Today, he ranks eighth on the all-time scoring list with 1,110 points and was all-conference in 1958 and 1960. He led the Bobcats in free throw percentage those two years with 81.7% and 80.4%. His single season high in points was 432 in 1960. He played on two conference champions and the 1960 team won the NAIA national championship with a 29-4 record after finishing third nationally the year before.
Chuck Trcka lettered three years and was on the national third place team as a sophomore.. He led the team in scoring his junior year in 1961 with a 15.8 average and hit 76.1% of his free throws.
Curly Lenox transferred from Texas A&M and played three years. As a sophomore, he shot a sizzling 52.4% from the field and led the team in scoring in 1968 with a 13.1 average as a senior.
Paul Hackett lettered there in 1969 and 1971. Does anyone know why he did not as a junior? He was a tremendous free throw shooter as a senior with a 91.1%. In my opinion, that put him in the "pure shooter" class. I believe he was a place kicker for the football team, too.
Joddie Witte played two years at Wharton Junior College then transferred to SWT. He lettered as a senior on the 1958 team that finished 18-4. He and Boonie were both on that team. Boonie and Trcka played together in 1960.
This may not be a complete report and additional comments will be very welcome.
Paul Trcka also played at SWT

I have no idea who Rob Ahr is but his kind of post is very welcome. And, it brought Hugh Taylor out of the catacombs too.
But, the real test is if you two guys can keep it up.
Y'all can start by telling us how those two did at Southwest Texas.

Paul Hackett is a recent contributor to this blog so maybe we can get an answer from him on the question above.
According to SWT records, he lettered in 1969 and 1971. Why not 1970?

Paul, quit posting on the Don Haskins thread and answer the question on this one.
