This tale that is too old for most of you is prompted by a group of League City Junior High pictures that Hugh Taylor has e-mailed to me. I encouraged him to share them with the blog.
One of the segments involved a team of seventh and eighth graders that I am very familiar with since I was a classmate of the older group. Some of you will recall the names, many of you will have no clue.
The team was 11-3 for the year and lost only one conference game, a one pointer at LaMarque. It seems that I recall the game being played on a stage and our guys being upset with the officiating after the game. We later won in League City, 30-22, so maybe the officiating really was bad in the earlier game since we had also beaten LaMarque, 27-14 in the very first game of the year. Another interesting score was League City 26 and Santa Fe 2,
Coached by John Ellisor, the eighth grade players were Kennith Dismukes, Thomas Davis and Martin Langham and seventh graders were Billy Coleman and the Barba brothers, Joe and George. Four years later, part of this group finished 14-8 as Coach Carlisle rejoined the team from military service. The record could have been a good deal better and maybe the string of district championships could have started in 1953 rather than the following year.
Why is that? Well two of the eighth graders, Davis and Langham, were very good athletes but unfortunately moved out of state after that year. I wonder what they are doing today? I still miss them.
Another good athlete that moved away was Jackie Milligan. I can't remember when or why he left but apparently younger brother Charlie stayed. Maybe he can update us on Jackie.

I just mentioned Jackie Milligan, an other good athletes that left before time, on a blog subject that I just sent to Ed Davis this very day for posting.
It's on the "Who Was Our Greatest Athlete?" thread.
And, Jackie's brother Charlie contributed to The Carlisle Project and I hope he is reading the blog and will give us the answer that both of us would like.
