In the early years, Coach Carlisle required everyone to jump rope for 10 minutes during the warm-up period prior to the start of practice. This jump rope exercise had been used by Henry Iba at Oklahoma State (then A&M) during the period they were a national power. Needless to say, requiring a group of guys to jump rope will result in the development of some amazing skills. Some of these skills may have actually contributed to our winning ways on the basketball court. I used my jump roping skill for many years to try and impress my kids with my athleticism and I still enjoy discussing this skill with my grandkids.
I am sure Coach Carlisle's coaching techniques changed over the years. What are your recollections of some of his drills and skill development techniques?
I remember several things. One was the running of the lines for what seemed like forever. Another was practicing defensive moves by following Coach's directions as he blew the whistle - left, right, back, forward. And, of course, the 100 free throws before we left the gym. There were probably more but my failing memory is taking over.

Anybody remember the duckwalk? I'll never forget it. As for the free throws, we too had to complete a free throw session at the end of practice, but I don't think we shot 100. Seems like we had to make so many in succession, ten or maybe twenty. Any higher than that and some would still be there.
